My Mom's B-day!

Today is the big day for me! I have to through a birthday party for my mom.
This is my breakfast... I am spoiled here... *notice my apple butter. thanks Linda!

Going to grocery store, then home

This is the train station that I used to use everyday

This is the meat store which has been in my neighborhood for a long time. We used to have fish store, Tofu store, but they all had to go because of the supermarket that opened. I am so glad to see them open. I could not find ground beef because our typical "ground meat" is beef and pork mix. But, here they made me pure ground beef with Japanese beef. I paid about $60 for 2kg (about a pound) of ground beef, which is considered reasonable in Japan...

This is the route I always walked when I was here... bring back memories...

my cousin thought we need fruits to balance out the meal... she is nutritionist :) so we uncle took me to a store. we decided to get pineapple ($3) and melon ($10) notice the melon is in the box and perfect shape. By the way banana is about $2 for the bag you see in the picture

Getting ready for the party! My cousin and uncle is helping me. This is where I grew up.

My grand mom's garden. Okra, eggplant, green paper, basil, persimmon, Japanese orange, olive, lettuce, potato, and flowers are growing (more pictures coming later)

Japanese way to start charcoals.

water is VERY important in Japan since we don't have enough. We reuse bath water for laundry, rain water for garden.

My longest best friend came with her kids and sister! My mom hasn't seen them since we were kids. They helped us so much... Thanks guys!

How this looks? Do you notice anything in this picture?

Cheese says "Great Value" Yes, Walmart is in Japan now. (but cheese was made in Japan)
Here is My TN okra and wine!

OK. I forgot to tell. I had to go more than 10 bakery to get the buns! "Onigiri" (rice ball) in the back ground. My aunt made it "just in case" people need "regular" food.

My mom's friends are here too! They made her cakes and they are VERY good bakers

My aunt bought this because this is the VERY TYPICAL Japanese way to celebrate a happy day. by the way, my aunt is from fisherman town, so she can cut the fish up like this... talking about skills...

Cheese!
B-day cake made by my mom's friend. SO good, but for you, it is very light

MY MOM!!! she had to work. It was a surprise! (it was surprise because she HATE party, and she would not have come if we had told her. I can't believe I am her kid)

My grandmom lecturing how we are loud and troubling the neighbors. Being typical Japanese.

Green tea chiffon cake. YUM

It was a FUN day! but after I got home, I was told not to do this again because it "troubles" everyone. WHY? I just can't understand it anymore...
